Roundtable is a monthly meeting to help unit leaders plan and carry out their own program. Roundtable is a great chance for leaders to learn from each other.

Rocket Day & Cub Scout Adventure Day


Saturday, Sept. 30 | 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. | Benfer Elementary (18027 Kuykendahl Rd.)

REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

Blast off into the new Scouting year at Phoenix District Rocket Day and Adventure Day.

Cub Scouts who join this year will receive a rocket that they can build and launch at Cub Scout Adventure Day. Returning Scouts and families are also invited to attend Adventure Day and can bring rockets from previous years to launch again. Adventure Day will also feature archery, games and crafts.


Scouts BSA members and adults from Troops are invited to volunteer to help set up or run activities.

Webelos Woods

Oct 20-22 | Tellepsen Scout Camp (3450 County Rd 317, Navasota)

Webelos Woods is a campout designed to introduce 4th and 5th grade Webelos Scouts to the many outdoor adventures of Scouting. This awesome weekend event includes patrol-method camping and Scouting activities.

On Saturday morning, Webelos dens and parents participate in a round-robin rotation of short troop visits. Webelos families will meet with Troop leadership to learn about the Troop. 

Saturday afternoon Webelos and parents will be able to participate in games, crafts, shooting ranges, activities and more. Those with more questions for troops will have a chance to continue visiting asking questions to get to know their preferred troops better.

The afternoon activities will come to an end with team competitions with teams consisting of scouts from both levels of scouting.

The evening will finish off with an entertaining campfire program and evening activities. After the campfire, Webelos Scouts and their parent/guardian are encouraged to camp overnight with Phoenix District troops.

Phoenix District Troops are encouraged to attend and help with activities.

Phoenix District Packs are encouraged to inivite your 4th and 5th grade Scouts and their families to attend this fun weekend.

Every Scout deserves a trained leader. Every leader deserves to be trained. A variety of training courses for all levels of leaders in all Scouting programs are available. Scouters can attend training in any district.

We invite Scouters to complete their position-specific training in-person -- learn from other Scouters, share ideas and ask questions.

BALOO is a BSA national training introduces Cub Scout leaders to the basics of Cub Scout camping and outdoor events. It is an overnight event.

IOLS provides adult leaders of Troops the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the outdoors. It is an overnight event.

Wood Badge is the Boy Scouts of America's ultimate leadership training designed to meet the advanced leadership needs of Scouters in all aspects of the BSA, whether unit, district, or council level – from assistant den leaders to Scoutmasters, from Cubmasters to Venturing Advisors, from committee members to commissioners. 
It is a fun, energetic and inspiring course guaranteed to infuse your unit with fun and meaning – all designed to fulfill the mission of the BSA, and ensure our youth is getting everything they are promised from the program.

NYLT - Winter 2023

Dec. 26-31 | Bovay Scout Ranch

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed six-day council-level program designed to provide Scouts in troops, crews, and ships with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home units and other situations demanding leadership of self and others. 

NYLT is filled with activities, presentations, challenges, discussions, and camping in a team and model unit environment. Participants learn and practice skills that are valuable at home, church, school, work, and the Scouting unit.

The course is designed for Scouts BSA members who are at least 13 years old, and for Venturers or Sea Scouts who are at least 13 years old and have completed eighth grade.

Shooting Sports

All trainings are held at Camp Strake HQ Training Room

  • Sept 15-16: Rifle

  • Sept. 22-23: Shotgun

  • Oct. 13-14: Pistol

*Basic Instructor Training (BIT) must be current when taking the basic shooting or basic instructor class. The certification lasts two years.

Cub Scout Rangemaster Training
This Saturday, Sept 9 @ Bovay

8am-5pm

Register for Rangemaster Training

Cub Scout Rangemaster Training includes both the classroom and the practical training for Cub Scout Rangemaster (archery and bb gun).

Cub Scout Rangemasters are needed for District and Council events to help set up and safely run ranges for archery, bb guns and slingshots. Cub Scouts are only allowed to paricipate in shooting sports at a District (Rocket Day, Webelos Woods, Day Camp) or Council event and lots of help is needed. Please take this course if you are interested in helping out.

A cornerstone of the Scout programs is training.Training courses are conducted by districts and some by the Sam Houston Area Council. Trainings include First Aid, Climbing, Shooting, BALOO, IOLS and Position Specific Training.

ORDER OF THE ARROW

Order of the Arrow - Phoenix Chapter

Chapter Meeting| Sunday, Sept 10 | 6 pm | Troop 1323 Hut


The Order of the Arrow is the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America and recognizes Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives.

The OA chapter meetings provide youth Arrowmen an opportunity to develop a plan to support units in the district, promote upcoming events, participate in ceremony team preparation and regalia building, learn leadership skills and have fun.

CONGRATS to Phoenix District scouts doing great things with Venturing Officer Association (VOA). Joshua H. (Troop 1323) just finished his third year as a council officer and moves up to a leadership postion in National Service Territory 7.
