Friends of Scouting

Friends of Scouting is the name of our annual campaign and provides an opportunity for all Scouting families to invest in the character, education, and leadership programs of Scouting by making a 100% tax-deductible gift.

We are adding a new Friends of Scouting component, and all units will have a FOS goal to meet by March 31, 2024. When the unit meets its goal, all the Scouts in the unit will be entitled to 50% off day camp fees (packs) or 50% off Full Throttle weekends (troops, crews, ships). Contact your district’s Family FOS chair to get more details about the campaign. Unit leadership should provide the unit's Blue and Gold or Court of Honor date where the Family FOS presentation will occur, so proper planning and presenter arrangements can be made. We appreciate your continued support and thank you for allowing us to tell the Scouting story to your unit’s families and for supporting our annual Friends of Scouting campaign.

Winter Activity Safety

Keeping warm is the most important part of cold-weather camping and outdoor activities. Use the “C-O-L-D” method to stay warm. C=Clean, O=Overheating, L=Loose Layers, D=Dry. For more information about the "C-O-L-D" method and other winter activity safety measures, please click here.

BSA Medal of Merit

Scout Dylan Simpson was awarded the BSA Medal of Merit for recognizing a friend was in danger of choking: he immediately began administering back blows and demonstrating exceptional character and calmness under pressure.

During lunch at his school’s cafeteria, Dylan’s friend was eating an orange and started choking.  With his friend’s face turning red, without hesitation, Dylan got up and delivered back blows and the piece of orange exited his friend’s mouth.

As a result of Dylan’s actions, his friend was able to resume breathing normally and did not need further medical treatment.

Congratulations to Dylan Simpson for his quick action and for receiving this award.

Camperships

The council is dedicated to ensuring all Scouts can attend camp.

The purpose of campership aid is to make attending camping programs possible for deserving Scouts who otherwise would not be able to meet the fee requirements. Scouters may also need camperships to attend training and/or be able to provide leadership so more Scouts can attend camp.

The campership fund is possible through donations, Friends of Scouting (FOS), and popcorn sales. Camperships for council camp programs can be requested for trainings such as NYLT and Wood Badge and events such as day camp, Adventure Camp, summer camp, winter camp, and more. Camperships need to be requested before registering for an event.

Membership Fee Update

One-Time Joining Fee Eliminated

Effective April 1, 2024, the BSA will eliminate the $25 one-time joining fee for new Scouts in the Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Sea Scouts programs. This is great news for families joining Scouting and especially timely during spring recruiting.

Membership Fee Increase

Also, effective April 1, 2024, the annual membership fee for all adult volunteers and youth in the Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Sea Scouts programs will increase by $5 annually.  All other fees remain the same.  (See infographic for details.)

The timing of this membership fee increase earlier in the calendar year allows unit leaders to better plan their budgets, fundraising, and recruiting calendars.
