Youth Protection

The BSA has adopted many policies for the safety and well-being of its members (Guide to Safe Scouting). These policies primarily protect youth members; however, they also serve to protect adult leaders. All parents and caregivers should understand that our leaders are to abide by these safeguards.  FAQs

BSA National Certificate of Merit

Performing a significant act of service that is deserving of National BSA recognition, Scout Jonathan Hogue recognized a potentially dangerous situation in which a student required medical attention. After classes had ended for the day, Jonathan was heading to the sports field for practice when he noticed sneakers sticking out from the bleachers. On his own initiative, Jonathan inspected further and found a student barely conscious and offered help. The student had shallow breathing and eventually  that he needed assistance.

Recognizing that an advanced level of care was needed, Jonathan moved quickly to seek help. He found the school’s soccer coaches and was instructed to find an AED.  Shortly thereafter, the medical team arrived and ensured the student received care. Jonathan’s coach noted: “Thanks to Jonathan’s quick action, the student received the needed medical attention.”

Thanks to Jonathan’s urgent intervention, critical thinking, and alerting medical authorities, this situation was prevented from becoming worse.

Friends of Scouting

Friends of Scouting is our annual campaign and an opportunity for all Scouting families to invest in the character, education, and leadership programs of Scouting by making a tax-deductible gift.

This year, we are adding a new Friends of Scouting component. All units will have a FOS goal to meet by March 2024. When the unit meets its goal, all the Scouts in the unit will be entitled to 50% off day camp fees (packs) or 50% off Full Throttle weekend (troops, crews, ships). Contact your district’s family FOS chair to get more details about the campaign. As we prepare to kickoff the 2024 FOS Campaign, your help is needed. Unit leadership should provide the unit's Blue and Gold or Court of Honor date where the Family FOS presentation will occur so proper planning and presenter arrangements can be made. We appreciate your continued support. Thank you for allowing us to be able to tell the Scouting story to your unit’s families and for supporting our annual Friends of Scouting campaign.
