Scout Hunter Reid Tomlinson successfully rescued his mother who was choking on food. The incident happened While Scout Hunter Tomlinson and his mother were preparing food in the home kitchen, his mother said she needed help in a muffled tone. Hunter went to her, noticing she was having issues breathing and correctly positioned himself and performed abdominal thrusts. After the first set of abdominal thrusts did not successfully dislodge the substance his mother started choking. Hunter then started performing abdominal thrusts again.
On the second attempt, the food was dislodged, and Hunter’s mother was able to resume breathing normally. In recognition of his actions of administering abdominal thrusts, having to start, stop, and then start again, all while demonstrating exceptional character and calmness under pressure, Hunter was awarded BSA's Medal of Merit. |
