David Crockett District Roundtable

Unit Leaders - Rockets for your new Scouts will be handed out at Roundtable, please have a representative from your unit attend to pick up your rockets.

Roundtable is a district monthly meeting held the second Thursday of the month to help unit leaders plan and carry out their own program. It's designed is to give leaders program ideas, information on events and training opportunities, and an opportunity to share experiences and fellowship with other Scouting leaders.

Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting, regardless of position within the unit. Every unit should send at least one representative to every meeting. For questions about Roundtable, contact Steve Schrock

Rocket Day

Rocket Day
Youth who join Cub Scouts this year will receive a rocket that they can design, build, and launch at Rocket Day. Youth in kindergarten through fifth grade who are interested in joining Scouting may also attend. We will help you find a pack near you and get signed up for Scouting.

Webelos Woods

November 10-12, 2023      |  Tellepsen Scout Camp

Webelos Woods is a campout designed to introduce Webelos Scouts to the many outdoor adventures of Scouting. This awesome weekend event includes patrol-method camping and Scout activities. 

On Saturday, Webelos dens compete in Webelos Scout skills. The dens are judged on den flag and yell, resources, leadership, teamwork, skill demonstration and Scout spirit.

Camporee

November 10-12, 2023      |  Tellepsen Scout Camp

Camporee is a weekend campout for troops.  Patrols compete in various competitions and are judged on leadership, teamwork, skill demonstration, cooking and Scout spirit.

The camporee is part of the Scouting experience that requires Scouts in troops and their patrol to put into action the skills that they have learned in Scouting. Scouts in troops have to work as a team to accomplish many tasks.

Full Throttle

October 27 - 29, 2023     |  Camp Strake

Full Throttle is a weekend event for troops, crews, and ships who are camping at Camp Strake. Scouts spend a half-day participating in program areas such as shooting sports (rifle, shotgun, archery), climbing, COPE (high-ropes course), swimming, ziplining, and boating (canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, rowboats) and a half-day taking a merit badge class. The camp staff provides the program leadership supported by the unit leaders.

Webelos Coyote Xtreme

November 10-12, 2023 |   Bovay Scout Ranch

Webelos Coyote Trail Xtreme is an annual event for 4th and 5th grade Webelos Scouts at Bovay Scout Ranch. During this fast-paced, fun-filled weekend Webelos Scouts will be introduced to the patrol method. Webelos Scouts will learn the importance of teamwork and other skills they will need for their first camp out with a troop, such as knot tying, flag etiquette, first aid, and more.

STEM Camp is an extraordinary opportunity with over 20 merit badges and NOVA activity classes to choose from, Scouts can engage in hands-on learning and explore exhilarating STEM programs, exhibits, and activities. If you want more in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, this is the week to be out at camp!

Day of Service - Save the Date

December 9, 2023 

The Day of Service is a new program and is an opportunity for Scouting families across the 16 counties served by the Sam Houston Area Council to participate in unit-developed service projects to benefit the local community. 

As throughout Scouting's history, families are answering the call to work together in service. From caring for the environment to assisting neighbors in need, Scouts have always been a force for positivity and goodness in our communities. Together, Scouts can answer the call to make a positive impact in the community.

BALOO Training

October 13-14, 2023 |Troop 1323 Scout Hut, 5927 Louetta R Spring, TX77379

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is the Cub Scout leader training required for any Cub Scout den or pack outdoor event, including packing camping, overnighters, and Webelos den overnighters. BALOO training is comprised of two components – an online component, and a practical, hands-on component which includes an overnight with 16 hours of instruction time. One BALOO trained leader is required to be present on any pack family or Webelos den overnight camping.  See the council training schedule for a list of additional trainings opportunities.

IOLS Training

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) is an overnight training with 16-hours of instructional time that gives adult leaders the practical knowledge they need to help Scouts to learn outdoor skills. The skills presented closely follow the Scout Handbook and rank advancement requirements. This is a required training course for all Scoutmaster and assistant Scoutmasters. See the council training schedule for a list of additional trainings opportunities.

Wood Badge is the Boy Scouts of America's ultimate leadership training designed to meet the advanced leadership needs of Scouters in all aspects of the BSA, whether unit, district, or council level – from assistant den leaders to Scoutmasters, from Cubmasters to Venturing Advisors, from committee members to commissioners. 

It is a fun, energetic and inspiring course guaranteed to infuse your unit with fun and meaning – all designed to fulfill the mission of the BSA, and ensure our youth is getting everything they are promised from the program.

University of Scouting

University of Scouting is a semi-annual supplemental training program. Sessions are led by experienced volunteers who will help leaders and parents enhance their ability to deliver a fun and exciting program to the Scouts. 


Courses include basic training and a variety of supplemental classes for leaders and parents focusing on Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts, Scouts BSA, outdoors, high adventure, conservation, and advancement that will provide information, techniques, and best practices on how to enhance the Scouting program.

The Order of the Arrow is the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America aLnd recognizes Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives.

OA chapter meetings provide youth Arrowmen an opportunity to develop a plan to support units in the district, promote upcoming events, participate in ceremony team preparation and regalia building, learn leadership skills and have fun.
