Wilderness First Aid is the assessment of and treatment given to an ill or injured person in a remote environment where definitive care by a physician and/or rapid transport is not readily available. Participants will learn how to assess, treat, and (when possible) contain emergencies within the scope of their training.
Registration
The registration fee is $75 with a maximum participation of 60 participants. The course fills up early.
In order to maximize the number of units to attend high adventure trips, only two adults (no youth) per unit can register.
Course prerequisites
*Equivalent First Aid, CPR, AED and WFA training from the following nationally-recognized organizations: American Red Cross (ARC), Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI), and American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) meet the BSA training requirements. Other courses accepted by the BSA are listed here and here (page 2). BSA does not accept online CPR classes.
What to Bring
- Copy of CPR/AED certification
- BSA Health and Medical Record (Parts A & B)
- Note taking materials
- USB drive for electronic copies of materials
- Sack lunch, drinks, snacks
- Activity uniform - comfortable Scout appropriate clothing
Certification
Organizations and individuals may provide students who successfully complete the 16-hour curriculum a certificate of completion of a class that meets the criteria of the Boy Scouts of America for Wilderness First Aid (WFA). The content of this course may not deviate, either through additions or deletions, from the approved curriculum. This certificate will be valid for two years.
