Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (s11)

October 23- October 25th

Tellepsen Scout Camp

Campsite 7

Medical Forms

Please remember to bring a completed (Parts A & B) BSA medical form to check-in.  If you have any special concerns you believe we need to be aware of during the weekend, please let us know at check-in, as we will not be able to review all of the forms for this sort of thing and will just be using the forms in the case of an emergency.  You can have the forms back at the end of the weekend.

Special Food Needs

We do not have the facilities to address special food requirements this weekend.  If you require a special diet, please bring your own food.  We *MAY* be able to cook it for you, depending on the variance of cooking method required at each meal.  For instance, if we have hamburgers on Saturday night, we should be able to throw your veggie burger on the grill along with the others.

Hello, IOLS Trainees!

You are signing up to attend Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills at Tellepsen Scout Camp October 23 going to have a great time and learn a lot of important skills that you can put to use right away in your efforts to improve the experience of the scouts in your unit.

Registration

If you would like to help get the word out, please forward on the attached Personal Letter to anyone you think might benefit from this training.

The cost for the course is $30, and is due upon registration electronically through doubleknot. Cost includes camp fees, materials, and, most importantly, food.

Location: Please plan to arrive between 5:30 PM and 6:00PM on Friday, October 23rd.  We will check everyone in and start promptly at 6:30 PM.  You should be leaving camp no later than 11:00 AM on Sunday, October 25th.  Please plan to be there the entire time.

What to Bring

In general, we use the Boy Scout Handbook to determine what IOLS trainees need to bring.  Attached is a spreadsheet that should serve as a good checklist.  Pay clp; These are the parts that do not require a doctor’s visit.  It can be found here:

http://www.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/680-001_AB.pdf

Dress

If you have a Field Uniform (aka Class A), please bring it.  If you do not yet possess such a fine article of clothing, an Activity Uniform (aka Class B) is okay.   An Activity Uniform is any t-shirt used in Scouting, such as a camp shirt or troop shirt.  Please keep in mind that this is a Scouting event.  You may be hiking through field and wooded areas of Bovay during this course, so jeans and hiking boots would be good additions to your pack.

Communication, Electronics, Etc.

This is an intense course!  You will go through almost all of the material your boys will learn in a year to 18 months in just one weekend.  It will be drinking from a fire hose.  As this will be an intense and informative course, we ask that you limit the use of personal electronic devices to emergency uses only.
